September 18, 2003 - Again, not much going on. The Inertiatic ESP single will be released in Europe at the end of the month, with XFM sessions of Roulette Dares and Drunkship of Lanterns as b-sides on the CD and Vinyl versions, respectively. The next single will probably be Televators, and reports suggest a Chilean director will do the video. Some new stuff is up in the media section.

September 2, 2003 - No updates for a while, but we have some pretty exciting content. Thanks to Timmy and Toaster, there's a live stream rip of TMV's set at the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium last Saturday. Check the media page.

August 18, 2003 - I think it has to be fate that the week I move back to Sweden from San Diego, CA, MTV Nordic (Scandinavia) are featuring TMV as artist of the week. They also put up an [interview].

August 13, 2003 - Our buddy Sehki is putting together a rather comprehensive [Tour history and recordings archive]. Not 100% done, but it looks really good so far. Check it out.
-anton

August 7, 2003 - Our favorite New Yorker Ajy has started [ritual contrition], a site focused on media downloads. He has some pretty cool stuff right now, including the XFM sessions and an mpeg of the Inertiatic ESP video.
-anton

August 1, 2003 - So the site was down for 2 days due to bandwidth issues. It won't happen again though.
Omar and Cedric edited together a video for Inertiatic ESP. There are two versions, one with and one without Son Et Lumiere.
At their last UK visit, they did a session with XFM and recorded Roulette Dares and Drunkship of Lanterns. Stay tuned for audio clips of that.
When the summer tour is done (as of right now, the last date is September 7) they're going back in the studio to record again. My guess is an EP will be available sometime in spring 2004.
Finally, we will be replacing that beloved Santa Barbara boot with tooldvn's Boston bootleg once it is digitally mastered. Hope you're all having a good summer!

July 28, 2003 - [Q4 Music] have an interview with the band. Not much of interest, except Omar mentions that they want to record an EP. Makes me want them to do it right now.
-anton

July 27, 2003 - This month's issue of London radio station Xfm's magazine X-Ray includes an exclusive feature on The Mars Volta, as well as a free CD. You can find more information about X-Ray at [www.xfm.co.uk/xray]. Also, we have new live photos from various shows throughout this year.

-nave

July 02, 2003 - I have added some [pictures] from last night at the Henry Fonda Theater. The show was amazing. Saul Williams was definately an entertaining opener. The band played each track from "De-Loused" in order, encoring with Concertina. We would also like to thank all of the assholes that ruined the experience for so many people. How is it even possible to mosh to The Mars Volta?
-nave

June 24, 2003 - De-Loused in the Comatorium is out today. It's absolutely amazing. You should buy it.
-anton

June 17, 2003 - [themarsvolta.com] is finally up. there's some cool rad stuff on there...including aim icons, banners and a 15 second video clip. It also says that i'm the man. I'd just like to go on record and say Nave is and always will be twice the man i once was. Or something like that...
Also noteworthy is that De-Loused last week entered as #21 on the CMJ chart, and this week, a week before its release, climbed to #12.

June 8, 2003 - I have added short pages of member biographies. The main reason I have made these is for fans that may be confused upon who is who, especially when considering previous band members. This is kind of random, but I came across an interesting biography thing about De Facto - [Tick Archive]. Also, the Henry Fonda Theater show in LA sold out in less than one day. So anyone who is expecting to go to the San Francisco show, be sure to buy your tickets soon.
-nave

June 2, 2003 - The album has been reviewed by AP magazine. Read it [here]. This is the third review so far, and in each of them were extremely positive, scoring a 5/5 in all three. Thanks to LimitsAreLies

May 30, 2003 - Due to Jeremy's death, The Mars Volta have cancelled their remaining shows with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
-anton

May 28, 2003 - Jeremy Michael Ward, sound engineer and co-writer for The Mars Volta was found dead in his home this past Sunday. Here is the band's statement:

The members, family and friends of The Mars Volta were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Mars Volta band member Jeremy Ward. Ward, 27, was found dead in his Los Angeles home by his roommate on the evening of Sunday, May 25. The cause of death has yet to be determined pending autopsy. Ward served as sound manipulator for The Mars Volta, working on every one of their recordings and live shows. The band commented on this loss as follows:

"We have collaborated with Jeremy for the past 10 years. He was the driving force of Defacto, and an integral part of The Mars Volta, who often went unnoticed because he chose to perform offstage. In addition to music, Jeremy was an incredibly talented writer and painter.

We are devastated by the loss, but know that Jeremy will continue to be with us in spirit at every show and during the making of every record."

We will report any more information when it becomes available.

May 25, 2003 - Our great friends, Theory and Joeri, have launched the [The Comatorium] today. It looks awesome with all of cool features. Be sure to check it out and participate in the interactive aspects of the website.
-nave

May 20, 2003 - The [DST Community] has put up samples of the cover art for De-Loused in the Comatorium. Looks pretty rad if you ask me.
-anton

May 19, 2003 - Our buddies at Universal have put up a street team/fan community at [http://www.thedst.com/themarsvolta]. Go sign up, there are some cool pictures, and hopefully they'll have the album art up soon enough. [The official site] is still under construction, but should be operational before too long.
-anton

May 11, 2003 - The Mars Volta will be doing a US club tour this summer. We do not have a complete list of dates, but we know they will be playing July 1st at the [Henry Fonda Theater] in LA. Also, I have added some pictures to the media section.
-nave

April 26, 2003 - The site looks all totally different, we are going for a cleaner look. We have also elaborated on the discography and some other parts as well. If there are any problems or anything that you have noticed, then email me - [nave@inertiatic.com]. I hope you guys enjoy it.
-nave

April 17, 2003 - Inertiatic.com will now be run by the both of us, Anton and Nave. Expect some changes around this site, visually and hopefully content wise. As for the album, it is now confirmed to have only eight tracks. The other two tracks are rumored to be released on something else, a single or maybe even a companion EP. Also, if you haven't already, be sure to check out the official [free download] for a wma file of "Drunkship of Lanterns".
-nave

April 14, 2003 - The official site is now operational and under control. There is also a messageboard, so I have decided to close down this one. A fragmented community is no real community.

April 10, 2003 - Theory put up a nifty little [archive].

April 8, 2003 - There are some new tourdates floating around. They're all wrong, as they conflict with a bunch of other dates. Also, Ambuletz is in no way a remix, that's just the way the song is. Cause Omar said so...

April 6, 2003 - Websites are announcing "Deloused in the Comatorium" as the album title. Fans will of course remember that as a line from Eunuch Provocateur.

March 20, 2003 - Some more magazine scans:

Kerrang! magazine:
[page 1]
[page 2]
[page 3]
[page 4]

and from q magazine: (thanks to colly)
[scan 1]

and finally the apparatus flyer hollie scanned:
[page 1]
[page 2]

March 17, 2003 - Hollie sent this to me a while ago and i just forgot to post it. Apparently there were flyers passed out at the RHCP shows. Here's what she has to say:

"Apparatus" is, I think, called "The Apparatus Must Be Unearthed." There were some little flyers with at least some of the lyrics printed:

I've been waiting for so long for someone to mend all the blame It was raining down fingers But the eclipse remained anonymous Avenge my name !*!*!*!* Anonymous Avenge my name !*!*!*!* You came here on time I just hope that it's not too late I've seen you at night biting the frost of silence Can you cure of this fate Mock the litany in its face Is that you? Moatilliatta I've been waiting for so long...
I wouldn't put too much stock in that, though. There are a ton of misspellings and I think the "Can you cure of this fate" part isn't right, either. There's a great picture in it, though, of just Cedric and Omar.

Judge for yourselves.

March 12, 2003 - Some cool album news; it will be exactly an hour in length, and all the songs will be "connected". None of the EP tracks appear on the album.
Some not cool at all album news; it's been pushed back another two weeks to june 17th.

March 8, 2003 - Some little tidbits: The new bassist on the Europe tour is a guy named Jason. The album was finished last friday, right before the band left for Europe. It has more than 9 tracks, and one of them features John Frusciante from the Chilis.

March 1, 2003 - According to Skyscraper Magazine, the Mars Volta track that will appear on the GSL sampler with issue 13 is called "Ambuletz" and is a "7 minute remix of sorts". Thanks to Greg!

February 19, 2003 - The band are playing day 2 (April 27th) of the Coachella Music and Arts festival in Palm Springs, CA. A shitload of other good bands are also playing. I'm there.

February 17, 2003 - Kristen got a gazillion emails this weekend about the lack of small shows in the US. So as a heads-up, there will most definitely be smaller US shows where The Mars Volta will headline.

February 12, 2003 - The Mars Volta has some tour dates with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in may and june. Dates in the tour section.
I also got some Euro solo dates.
New Roulette Dares tab in the tabs section.
I had totally forgotten about the resolution problems with the site, but there is now an option on the front page for those of you with 800x600 resolution.

February 6, 2003 - The band is currently (yes, currently) mixing the songs for the album, so what some people have heard off the album are not the final versions.
As soon as the official site is up there will be some new t-shirts and stickers to buy, so save your allowance, kids.
They're also rehearsing for the tour and working on the packaging for the album.

February 4, 2003 - The Mars Volta will appear on a GSL sampler of "new material". It says 14 of the 19 songs have never been available before, but no one seems to know if the Mars Volta track is off the new album, one of the unreleased Tremulant track or just one of the Tremulant tracks.
It'll be available in late february with issue #13 of Skyscraper magazine.

February 4, 2003 - The new release date for the still untitled album is June 3rd. Let's just hope it's not pushed back further.

February 3, 2003 - Due to my evil webhosting, the site was down for a couple of days. Hopefully I won't have to deal with them anymore.
Click [here] to see the SPIN magazine feature on The Mars Volta. Thanks again to DogWitAMullet

In other news, I talked briefly to Omar and Cedric and rather lenghty with Ikey last week. Not much news, other than Ikey definitely plays on the record. His new project "Free Moral Agents" (psychidelic hip hop) can be bought at [Pete Records].

January 24, 2003 - Click [here] to see the AP magazine feature on The Mars Volta. Thanks to DogWitAMullet

January 21, 2003 - The band has finished 7 tracks for the album. However, they are recording 2 more for a total of 9 to appear on the album. This is also the reason for the supposed delay until june. That's just a rumor, if anyone has any real news on the issue, please email me.

January 15, 2003 - goldstandardlabs.com updated it's news, but nothing terribly new was revealed. They're tellings us "to expect a May release date".
I put up another one of Jonathan Berg's wallpapers in the media section.

January 08, 2003 - This week's NME magazine has a feature on The Mars Volta. Nothing terribly new, but i like the track listing, sort of.

The album will be a concept record inspired by the life and untimely death by suicide of Julio Venegas, one of their friends from El Paso. "He was a really great artists and a really beatutiful person. There was a point (in his life) where he overdosed on morphine and we're taking that and kind of using when he was in the coma as the main basis for the songs. Like he goes into the coma and he takes different adventures when he's under to different places. It's a bit like qwuantam Leap...He led a very sad and hard life. He taught us all a lot and he's a shining example of what we are all about" Possible album songs atm are: Roullettedares, Inertiatic ESP, take The Veil Cerpintaxt, Eriatarka, A Plague Upon Your Hissing, Children, televators.

January 07, 2003 - Put up a tab for Eriatarka.
Also (and i know this is shameful), if anyone has an extra ticket or two for the Fire Theft show at the Troub, i'd be willing to pay double price or something for them...=(

January 05, 2003 - Ataxia sent me a tab for the solo in Concertina. Thanks.
Sorry about the lack of news guys, there's just not a lot to report. Hopefully some time in the near future things will start to pick up.

December 29, 2002 - Welcome to inertiatic.com. Thanks go to nave for kickass graphics in a very short time and my sister.
Merry continuation.

December 26, 2002 - Happy hollidays everyone!
Sort of news from Kristen Welch: They're looking at having the official site up and running sometime in January, and they're looking for pics and stuff to put on there for the launch.
The band are on holliday break right now, but will begin mixing in mid-january. Best part: "There is a good possibility of a few US shows in February before we go to Europe - in addition to the peppers dates, we will be doing our own shows over there".
After that, another full US tour after Europe.
"the record sounds so fuckin great – I cant wait until you all can hear it."

I also switched the Drunkship video to Eriatarka at This Ain't no Picnic. Thanks again Ernie.
As we say in Sweden; happy continuation!

December 18, 2002 - Added a tabs section.
Thanks to worshipyourtoaster, the Santa Barbara mp3s are also back up, including Cicatriz. Check out the messageboard too, it's going pretty good.

December 12, 2002 - theprp.com reports that The Mars Volta's still untitled first full length will be released April 29th. It's gonna be a long wait, but at least we have a date...

I got a new messageboard, UBB style. check it out; [http://marsvolta.proboards6.com]

December 04, 2002 - The video should be fixed now. Download it again and rename the zip to mpg. Sorry about that, i understand it's a big download and all. If you downloaded it and it didn't work, you can try downloading the newest version of winzip and extracting it.

December 03, 2002 - I uploaded a video of Drunkship live at The Scene in San Diego on october 3rd, courtesy of noizEwater. Head over to the media section.
There is more video to be uploaded. If anyone has both room (at least 50 mb) and bandwidth to spare, please contact me.
Someone emailed me and told me Ralph didn't leave, but got kicked out. Supposedly Flea really wanted to work with TMV, and Omar and Cedric agreed. Has anyone else heard that?

November 30, 2002 - RonDorray brought [this] to my attention. In the setlist is mentioned a song called "Plague", which is new. Can anyone who was at the show verify that this was in fact a new song?
They have some pretty sweet pictures too.

November 22, 2002 - I'm sorry to tell you all I had to remove the mp3s. Hopefully enough people downloaded them that they'll be circulating in the p2p circuit. I also found out they were recorded and encoded by Robin Harris, so big thank you goes out to Robin.

November 20, 2002 - Buddyhead.com reports that yes, Ralph quit and Flea is filling in. They're also saying Omar will be producing the upcoming Radio Vago album.

November 16, 2002 - A little update (straight from Kristen Welsh, The Mars Volta's manager):

"We are starting to work on the bands site now – I know its been a long time coming – its not they are ignoring fans or anything, they’ve just been really really busy writing, recording since they came off tour. They haven’t really thought about the ‘selling’ of the band or websites or things like this they just care about making the best record possible."

Also: "As you know, they are recording now, Omar is doing guitars and Cedric started singing last week. We expect them to be done around the middle of December and out in stores around March.. We will start touring again in February."
"Just wanted to...let you know all is good here and the album sounds fantastic."

It is noteworthy that there will be touring in february, since the RHCP tour doesn't start until March. That might mean a couple more US dates before that, or a non-RHCP leg of a euro tour.

November 14, 2002 - I wrote a little bio, so the page is like, filled up now. Thank you again for all the support.

November 12, 2002 - Linda's last name is Good and she used to play in the band The Twigs.
I also added some short interview clips in the media section.
Thanks for all the support, and get word around about this website.

November 07, 2002 - So I decided to make this website. I worked with jaber for a brief period of time on the excellent [neohorizon] website, but that just didn't work out for me.
On this website I will try my best to keep all of you up to date on everything new about The Mars Volta, since news about them is so scarce.
To kick off the site, I have a live set of eight mp3 from the Santa Barbara show on october second, including three new songs. Head on over to the media section.

So, on to the band news. The lineup changes are as follows: Linda ??? instead of Ikey on keyboards, and Ralph ??? instead of Eva on bass. When I spoke to Ralph at the San Diego show, he seemed very excited to be part of the band, and said he wanted the band to re-record the Tremulant tracks with the new lineup. However, I've also heard rumors saying Ralph quit and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers will be filling in on the record until they find a replacement, so as not to further delay the record.
Speaking of the Chilis, as you might know, TMV will be touring Europe with them next spring. Dates in the tour section.
The band is currently recording their first full length with Rick Rubin (RHCP, System of a Down, Run DMC), for a spring 2003 release. It will be released on vinyl under GSL, and CD under Universal Records.
