Welcome to Inertiatic.com, the finest source for news and info about rock band - The Mars Volta.

August 04, 2006 - Just because The Mars Volta is currently a very active band does not mean that this site is too. I personally haven't posted anything in over two years. It's obvious that this site is totally outdated and you probably won't find what you're looking for and you'll just be eating our bandwidth unnecessarily. So instead of wasting our bandwidth by looking at all the shit on this site or lurking our forums and annoying the still active members, waste it by downloading my music instead! It's a win win situation... I think.

March 8, 2005 - The Mars Volta have finally announced their US tour in april-may. Head over to the [official site] for the dates and some headache flash.

Our messageboard is currently down, after a hacking attack. It should be back shortly, with a few weeks worth of posts lost. Sorry about that.

We're happy to report that Frances the Mute will debut at #4 on the american album sales chart. It also debuted in the top 5 in numerous european countries last week. Even if you don't like the album as much as you liked De-Loused, you have to applaud the band at getting up there with 50 Cent, and J-Lo with such an un-marketable album.

With that, I should say that I won't have as much time with this site and messageboard as I used to. I haven't really for almost a year now, but I figured it's never too late to give an explanation. This semester I'm taking the equivalent of 35 units at university and film school, and I mostly live in an apartment without a computer, so my internet visits are sporadic, and it gets difficult to stay up to date with everything going on. Pretty much all news items are covered in the forum, so if there's something, anything, you want to know about the band, just go to the forum, and look at the FAQ or ask your question. My interest in the band has not died, although it may have cooled a little. I went to their show here in Stockholm last week, and it was terrific, but unlike last time I didn't stick around to talk to omar or cedric after the show. That sort of sums up how I feel for the band nowadays...the music is great, but I'd rather leave the fanatic admiration to someone else. I'll still be updating big stuff here, and I'll leave all the content up, but I'd be very surprised if this site will be updated with new content in the future. Other people are doing a much better job at that.

January 31, 2005 - [Toazted.com] has a nice little interview with Omar and Cedric. Recorded last week, I think this is the only interview out so far from the band's promo tour of Europe, in anticipation of the real tour starting next week.
Also be sure you check out [francesthemute.com] for something fun that will be happening in the next couple of days.

December 13, 2004 - Leaks suck, and are an unfortunate evil of the internet. It sucks even more when it's such a bad copy as what is being passed around right now. As much as the hype that's swept over the internet for this release is amazing, no one wished anyone to hear such an amazing album in such piss-poor quality this side of the 70s. You didn't, I didn't, the band didn't, GSL (who are some of the nicest people in the business i've met) didn't. There's no taking this thing off the internet, we know that, but do your part. Don't share such a poor quality copy, don't send it to your room mate, don't host it on your website, or seed the torrents. This isn't a matter of "the real fans deserve to be the only ones who have it", and we know it's not about money, because everyone who got it today will buy it. It's a matter of the amount of time that was spent on this work, and how nothing can take back the first time you listen to an album.
So you have the album? You like it? Do everyone associated with The Mars Volta, from Omar and the crew through label, management, to us regular fans a favor and don't share, host or send this to your friends, and don't listen to it so much that you won't care come February, when you'll be able to hear Frances the Mute the first time.

December 8, 2004 - The Mars Volta shares a jukebox with Lindsey Lohan over at [Universal Motown]. Just click the left image.
The band didn't want people to hear the song for the first time like this, but there will be an e-card later on tonight. I hope you enjoy it.

November 30, 2004 - Alright, we finally scooped out some concrete details on Frances the Mute, set to be released march 22:
All the players are the same as have toured for a year now. However, the album will also include a great number of guest performers, including Larry Harlow as previously reported. It was produced by Omar, mixed by Rich Costey, and recorded in Australia, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico and New York.
Storm Thorgerson is doing the artwork again, and the lyrics will be included in the package this time. The songs are both in english and spanish. The Widow will be the single, and it will have a video. A very early version of The Widow was played at the Wiltern shows.

The 77 minutes of music will be seamless all the way through. The tracklist looks like this:

FRANCES THE MUTE:

CYGNUS....VISMUND CYGNUS
A. SARCOPHAGI
B. UMBILICAL SYLLABLES
C. FACILIS DESCENUS AVERNI
D. CON SAFO

THE WIDOW

L' VIA L' VIAQUEZ

MIRANDA THAT GHOST JUST ISN'T HOLY ANYMORE
A. VADE MECUM
B. POUR ANOTHER ICEPICK
C. PISACIS (PHRA-MEN-MA)
D. CON SAFO

CASSANDRA GEMINI
A. TARANTISM
B. PLANT A NAIL IN THE NAVEL STREAM
C. FAMINEPULSE
D. MULTIPLE SPOUSE WOUNDS
E. SARCOPHAGI

I'll let you try and figure that all out.

-anton

April 17, 2004 - For those of you who didn't get tickets to the Wiltern LG show in LA, rumor has it there'll be two more shows added soon. Stay tuned for more details on that.
I noticed few people have the Inertiatic ESP live March 16th 2002 video, so I put it up for download in the media section. Thanks to Keaton for hosting.
-anton

April 12, 2004 - Sadly, The Mars Volta have cancelled their summer tour of Europe. Hey, maybe this means they'll play some new songs when they get back? Or we'll get a new album or EP soon? Stay tuned.
-anton

April 8, 2004 - Good news first: The Mars Volta will play a headlining show at the Wiltern LG in LA on may 6th. [The presale] starts this afternoon, the password is JESSIE. Public onsale this saturday. Bad news: our webhost went out of business, and the board database seems to be gone. Until we figure out what to do the board will be down.

February 7, 2004 - [Click here] for the Televators video, and [Vote] for it on MTV2 Europe. Televators will also be released March 1st in Europe as an enhanced single featuring the video and Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt live XFM session as b-side.

Go order your booklets as soon as possible and read your hearts out. And if you by any means understand any of it, I for one would love to know.
-anton

January 17, 2004 - It's is now official, The Mars Volta will be on tour with A Perfect Circle, hitting up pretty much all of the US except the east coast for 22 dates in march and april. Check out the tour page for the dates, and presales are happening for this tour, so check out [themarsvolta.com] for presale information.

January 12, 2004 - For all of you collectors not in Australia, Sound World is carrying both the [Televators EP] and the [Double-CD De-loused] and they ship worldwide. They're both fairly cheap as well. The Televators EP is also a good alternative to the Live EP since it contains the same tracks but is more rare.
-anton

January 8, 2004 - The first copies of the book were printed just a few days ago. No word when it will start being shipped, but at least it's printing, about six months late.
-anton

December 24, 2003 - Happy hollidays everyone! Still not very much newsworthy in the MV world going on. The live EP was released, but few stores carry it. [Click here to see a list]. It sounds absolutely terrific though. The tracks on the EP are also being released in Australia on both the Televators EP and a special tour edition of De-Loused. No word of a European release yet
There are already rumours circulating about a US tour for the summer, and it wouldn't surprise me. Too early to say anything else though. As already reported, they're recording a new album in the next few months, so they will most likely play some new songs at the upcoming Japanese and Australian dates.
-anton

December 8, 2003 - The site was down for a day or so while we were switching servers. Not much Mars Volta related going on, but as soon as it does you know where to read about it.
-anton

November 20, 2003 - [the new mars volta messageboard]
-anton

November 17, 2003 - As with all rumors, it's just a rumor. And just like the rumor of a private show in LA last month, or a show at the Glasshouse in Pomona (which would've been much more pleasant), this one is also untrue. On a happier note, there's gonna be live footage from an upcoming DVD previewed on MTV2 this weekend on some of the most awful timeslots I've ever seen: 11/24/03 07:30 pm ET, 11/25/03 03:30 am ET, and 11/25/03 01:30 pm ET.
-anton

November 16, 2003 - Just got back from a trip involving lots of driving and almost as much Mars Volta.
I also got to chat with Omar a bit, and managed to squeeze out some news.

Other possible future releases: There's a rumour that The Mars Volta will be breaking up after the next LP, but I hadn't heard that before I left for the shows, so I didn't have a chance to ask about it. I'll investigate, but it sounds weird. The happiness and energy I've seen in the band (on stage at least) these past few days is unmatched since two years ago when they were just starting out. If you live in Europe, do yourself a favor and make sure you go to one of the shows on this tour.
-anton

November 6, 2003 - Today it's a year ago since this site opened. Good times? I think so.
So what are we doing to celebrate? The Comatorium and Inertiatic are finally putting our differences to good use, and becoming much more connected sites. No content should be duplicated, but where it was there will be a link to the respective site. We hope that by doing this the community surrounding this great band will tighten even more.
-anton

November 3, 2003 - Still not much going on news-wise. The book is finally being printed, while the vinyl edition of the album should be in stores by now. The band are playing the Big Day Out festival in Australia, and it's rumored they'll be recording an EP while they're there. Shows are also scheduled in Japan for January. Another video is in the making, but what song hasn't been decided yet.
-anton

October 31, 2003 - Happy Halloween! A live boot of the October 13th show at Newport Music Hall in Columbus is now up in the media section.
-anton

October 28, 2003 - Some new sites to the scene: [VoltaTabs] is the first dedicated MV tabs site, and the [first Polish MV (and ATDI) site], if you don't count that frightening Omar site.
-anton

October 19, 2003 - Omar's brother Marcel is playing various percussions with the band right now. Still no word if it's a permanent addition or just this tour.

The 2LP vinyl edition of De-Loused is now available from GSL. Sonny also emailed me about the confusion concerning the booklet. Here's what he has to say:

"the vinyl was supposed to include the lyric booklet. that has been the plan all along. however, due to an endless parade of delays with editing the story, proofing it, typesetting it, and getting the booklets printed they are still not ready. myself and the band are pretty embarrassed by this because, as I said, including the book with the vinyl seems obvious to us. so, unfortunately the vinyl is going to start shipping to stores next week without the booklet. we are going to post a notice about it this coming week with updated instructions on how to order the booklet, which will cost simply the amount of postage required to mail it. we are also going to be shipping bulk quantities of the booklets to the distributors and shops who bought the vinyl in hopes of them getting to the people who want/need them. that's really all we can do at this point. all mailorder customers who buy the vinyl will automatically be mailed the booklets when they come in, at no additional cost. that is part of the relatively high price of the vinyl through our mailorder, but the packaging will go a long way to justify the cost as well. we don't think anyone will be disappointed."

> In other words, the vinyl won't include the book, but will be awesome anyway, and the book in turn will be practically free.

-anton

October 1, 2003 - The European tour in november is taking shape, but there should be more tour dates trickling in, so check back. Also another date in San Francisco announced.
The vinyl finally has a release date, it's now set to Oct 21st.
